Anastasia Belous was born in Kiev (03.08.87), and has been living and working in London for the past 12 years. The main theme in her work lies within studying the painting techniques of the old masters and applying them to contemporary subjects. She is self taught as an artist.
With the Gorilla series she explores the borderline of animalistic, and what it is to human. He other work, specifically the paintings depicting coi carp, attempts to create a place of peace and beauty. The fish can also be enjoyed after dark, as they fluoresce. These images are run through with political context – as an Ukrainian abroad, Anastasia was affected by the political events in her native country, and with these paintings she wishes to nostalgically recreate the `when we were happy `.
As her latest commission, Anastasia was invited by the mayor of Odessa to paint a public mural in the city. Her other work belongs to private collections in London, Hong Kong, New York, Milan, Paris and Moscow. An article about her work was published in Juxtapoz Magazine.
